And if they dumped him in a really deep part of the ocean, it'd be nigh impossible to find him again. They didn't realize they needed his blood until later.
And they did bleed. There's blood on the dinner knife when Barbossa pulls it out of his chest.

All good points...so the Volvo theory reduces itself to about a mini cooper...

I got the impression that old Bootstrap was long gone out of reach or that he had died before the curse could take hold of him...though if he was cursed also, and they had to repay in blood, well then it makes sense to need the blood of a family member, doesn't it...? It's not a Mack Truck plot hole...more like a small Volvo at most...

WOOHOO! I finally got to see this movie and it was awesome.
Would have to watch it again for the plothole was too busy enjoying myself to notice.
Is there any limit to the coolness that is Johnny Depp?

No, as he litterally saved Once Upon a Time in Mexico from being a crappy movie.
And yes, now that it was mentioned, I remember the head bad guy pirate telling the woman that they killed Bootstrap and dumped him in the ocean. It wasn't until after that they found out they needed his blood to break the curse.

naaaaa, he didn't say they killed him, he said they tied a cannon to Bootstrap's bootstraps and threw him overboard. The man sank to the bottom of the Atlantic with a serious piece of iron dangling from his ankles. My theory is that the weight of the ocean alone would crush him, rendering him incapable of escaping from the cannon. That much ocean will crush a body, not much getting out of that, whether you are the undead or not. Kind of hard for a pancake to walk.
I love this movie. I am buying it as soon as it comes out. My friends and I are planning to hit it hard when it goes to the dollar theatres.

My friend burned a "pirated" copy for me. The quality sucks and I'll be buying a copy when it comes out too. Our dollar theater was shut down, much to my disappointment. I could watch this again and again.

You're lucky you even had a dollar theater at all. We don't have one of those and we never get movies here unless they are major blockbusters, or they play once a year at the film festival. I'd love to see this movie again too.

We finally got the movie here, and I'm off to see it for a second time with Chaos B this weekend. The best thing about the movie is Johnny Depp, and the second best is Orlando Bloom. I just love the way Depp plays his character. Think he deserves an award. And now I understand the Pirate threads-though they were funny even without seeing the movie. Glad there was a parrot in the movie.
